Air-to-water heat pumps harness the free energy from the surrounding air. The split-system air-to-water heat pump has an inside and an outside unit, which are connected by refrigerant pipes. The heat pump (inside unit) is installed in a heating room and the air evaporator (outside unit) outdoors.

The exceptionally quiet fan in the air evaporator draws in the surrounding air. A working fluid (refrigerant) circulates inside the evaporator and is able to evaporate even at extremely low outdoor temperatures (-15°C). The working fluid travels as a gas through the refrigerant pipes to the heat pump’s compressor, where it is pressurised and thus heated to a higher temperature. The working fluid gas then moves past the plate heat exchanger (heating loop) where it transfers its heat to the heating water (underfloor heating).
